Happy New Year from Zim!

January 2, 2019

Today’s the day, the rain is pouring and the blog is up!! Sorry for the delay in the blog. It’s been an adventure. Who knew it could rain in Zimbabwe? And not just rain, but stormmm.
Playback: Sunday we had our first day in the community! We walked down the dirt and rock path a few kilometers and reached the Zintabenti church! The pastors were out of town but a young man stepped up and guided the congregation through the service. Tyler did a great sermon (twice!) and we all enjoyed dancing along with their songs and then them doing the same for ours. They dismissed the kids out and so VBS began. Kameran led a great lesson on Job and then of course we crafted and played some more. That night after dinner and worship we decided to go for a night hike. It was a pretty exciting walk. Hard core par core, but no broken bones. PRAISES! Monday was a long long day but the best New Year’s Eve ever. We awoke, ate, drank coffee, and broke up in our teams! Some went to the community center and others stayed on the farm to help Norma sort some things out for donations and sewing ladies. We all reconvened at lunch and then headed down to the community for VBS. The boys split off from the ladies and went to meet up with their friend Obedient for bible study and futbol. It’s so much fun to hear children yelling as they run down to where we meet and to see them come from all different hidden paths and bushes. They love “patty cake” type hand games and any game involving dance. Our verse for VBS that day was Genesis 1:31. We had a lovely evening of our first night around the fire (due to rain) and listening to Chris share the Morning Star story and then we worshiped beforeeee heading out to the community center at 10 pm. Diamond, the farm manager, has started a fellowship out at the community center. There were 60 people packed in the empty storage room but it was oh so glorious! Wow, we were all so overwhelmed with their genuine worship and praises to Lord. We stayed til midnight but the rest of the party stayed til 6 am!! Tuesday we enjoyed brekkie and coffee once again but a lot more tired because of the night before. New Year’s Day everyone is recouping and they stay to themselves so we did a morning hike up a massive mountain called Bulldog. When we returned at lunch, a massive thunderstorm happened and the boys dorm was struck, the water pump was hit, and a place I can’t remember. Everything was mended quickly and we are adjusting to this is real life on the farm. We walked down to the church again for VBS and learned Jesus is the light then made songs and beats out of verses and words. These kids are so cool. Today is Wednesday and it was Chris’ birthday! Such a special day to be with him. His family came in town and they hung out while we went down to our friends Julia’s house. We met some women there who taught us how they make rugs and we got to have some time of prayer with them. Due to a storm, VBS was rescheduled but we had a chance to all sit together as a team and pray for this community, country, and specific people we had met. Tomorrow is a new day and we are excited of what’s to come. We’ve learned flexibility is key here because real life is happening and life is unpredictable. We’ve spotted a giraffe on a rock, a zebra, and an ostrich. Happy new year from all of us to you!!
