You may not realize this but there is always someone looking up to you. If you consider the
landscape of your influence you will realize there are people that look to you in one way or another as a role model. You may not have picked that job description but the truth is, there is always someone watching us.
Your Character Matters
The way you live your life truly matters. The way you carry yourself matters. If you are a coach, a mom, a dad, or maybe a sorority sister then you have influence that others value. In many ways the decisions you make whether good or bad will shape the ones people around you make. Yes, each person is accountable for his or her own choices but we must not discount the role our lives make. Live well, the Apostle Paul tells us. Live in such a way that our lives do not bring down the cause of Christ or call our witness into question.
The Future Generation
There are people in your life you have a chance to empower and encourage toward all God has for them. If you are a parent, a teacher, or friend you have the power to stand in the gap or stand in the way. People will come to you for advice and wisdom. You can either give a green light, a yellow light, or a red light. Obviously, each situation is different but do not stand in the way when it is evident God is leading and directing. We need people pursuing God sized plans but the world needs these dreams so the Gospel can do its’ miraculous work of grace as gives God the glory He deserves.
Consider Your Heroes
Think about those you looked up to. Consider the people who pushed you. There is a generation behind us that needs us desperately to stand in the gap not stand in the way. My parents, coaches and teachers all empowered me along the way. There are host of heroes God used in my life to help me be all I am today. I would not be the same man, husband, and dad without their influence. I hear a good bit of talk about the next generation of leaders out there and some of it not very encouraging. But I am here to tell you, this next generation has the potential to do some things we have not seen before. So before you write them off, take a moment and have a conversation with them. You will see in their eyes the hopes and dreams of a lifetime. They are just like David, Joshua, Ruth, and Mary ready for the road less traveled. They are willing to do whatever it takes to do all God has given them to do. Sit down and have lunch or coffee and hear the stories God is telling. It’s pretty amazing.
Remember Your Dreams
Over that lunch or coffee you might remember a dream or two you have had – I bet you will see that dream is still there waiting for you, the only problem is it’s covered up by time and the dust of disregard. I pray that God will reawaken your heart to all he wants to do through you. Our lives are to accomplish His plans and purpose for His glory!
